meet your instructor Chris Dye

Chris grew up as an athlete in many different sports, football being his favorite.
He knew after high school his athletic career was ending but wanted to stay involved with sports so he started volunteering his time to assist little league teams in soccer, football and basketball. In the process of assisting coaches, he learned he had a passion for teaching.
In 1999 he started studying various martial arts like Karate, Judo, Aikido, and Jiu-Jitsu. In those arts he was taught to practice the basic movements and blend them into practical self - defense. He also studied Brazilian Ju-Jitsu for 5 years in the FBJJ system. This led him into coaching a youth competition team in the sport of submission wrestling.
Along his journey in the martial arts he has had the honor of training with other martial artists, Instructors, Teachers, and Masters - many of them have over 30 years of experience.
Every Black belt he has trained with has taught him something new. From being a talented martial artist, sharing ideas concepts for personal protection, tips on teaching how to teach, guidance on operating a small business as well as the importance and different ways you can give back to the community.
In May of 2014, Chris and his wife opened Great Northwest Martial Arts Academy in Maple Valley, WA. It is here that he teaches and shares the knowledge of the martial arts that were passed down from other great martial artists. He and his wife are committed to building positive relationships with other good people and families in the community.
